Pharmacy

Staffed by student pharmacists and faculty from the Appalachian College of Pharmacy in Oakwood, Virginia, the Pharmacy Department at the Bear Clinic plays a vital role in supporting the health of our community. For our patients, we recommend and administer immunizations and provide medication/disease state counseling to help patients better understand and manage their conditions.  We are also a medication information resource for the healthcare staff at the Bear Clinic, always available to answer questions regarding appropriateness of therapy, drug interactions, contraindications, etc.

By working closely with our interprofessional team, we ensure every patient receives safe, personalized, and compassionate care. We are committed to breaking the stigma that seeking help or asking questions about medications is a burden. At our clinic, every concern is addressed, and every patient deserves to feel heard and supported. Our goal is to empower individuals to take control of their health through accessible, judgment-free pharmacy services.

Services We Offer:

Nursing

The Elliott School of Nursing is committed to preparing competent, compassionate nurses who meet the healthcare needs of Eastern Kentucky and beyond. Through our partnership with the BEAR Healthcare Clinic, nursing students apply classroom knowledge and clinical training in a supervised setting that emphasizes safe, evidence-based care and service to our community.

Throughout a clinic visit, nursing students work closely with patients to understand their concerns and provide appropriate care. They contribute through patient intake, comprehensive assessments, and obtaining vital signs, helping ensure patients leave with a clear understanding of their health, recommended treatments, and next steps in their care plan.

As part of an inter-professional team that includes ACP and local pharmacy partners, UPIKE’s Thrive Center for Behavioral Health, and a growing number of graduate programs; including medicine, dental, and social work, the Elliott School of Nursing collaborates closely to support coordinated, patient-focused services. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to accessible, community-based healthcare.

Social Work

Staffed by students and faculty from UPIKE School of Social Work, social work students play a vital role in supporting the holistic well-being of individuals and families in our community.
