During “Giving Tuesday,” the University of Pikeville (UPIKE) would like to honor individuals who have given so much to our students and alumni.

Today we recognize the lasting impact of Dr. Carol Grizzard Browning, Ron D. Damron, Derrick “Big Show” Silas, and Dr. John A. Strosnider. Whether in their daily lives or their professional careers, each has inspired us with their willingness to help others.

These giving individuals have made a difference and we ask you to join us in thanking them. Investing in their endowments will continue empowering future generations of students to develop a life-long passion for learning and a desire to serve others.

Make your donation to one of their endowments or to another designation. Each gift will have a positive impact on the lives of our students.
Carol Grizzard

Carol Grizzard Browning Lecture Series Endowment – 60% Funded

The Carol Grizzard Browning Lecture Series Endowment was established by her husband, Dr. James Browning, to enrich the academic and religious experience for students. Carol, a professor emeritus of religion, taught at UPIKE for 23 years before retiring in 2011. This endowment will be used to bring nationally known religious speakers to campus. Emphasis will be placed on scholars whose research provides new insights and approaches to understanding the Bible and the world’s religions. If there are funds remaining, a scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior majoring in religion.

Ron Damron

Ron D. Damron Endowed Scholarship – 36% Funded

The Ron R. Damron Endowed Scholarship was established by the UPIKE women’s bowling team in recognition of Ron’s service to students. He was the only coach the UPIKE’s women’s bowling program knew for the first 16 years of its existence and he led the team to four national championships before retiring from coaching in 2016.  The endowment will be used to help award bowling scholarships at UPIKE.

Derrick Silas

Derrick “Big Show” Silas Endowed Scholarship – 3% Funded

The Derrick “Big Show” Silas Endowed Scholarship was established by his family, friends, and colleagues in hopes on continuing his service-driven legacy. Recipients will be African-American undergraduate students who demonstrate Silas' love of UPIKE and community while being at least a sophomore, enrolled full-time, in financial need, and in good standing with the university.

John Strosnider
