KYCOM is expanding with the addition of the Leslie Ann Dotson Medical Education Building

2026 U.S. News and World Report Rankings

In many rural communities across Kentucky and Central Appalachia, access to healthcare can mean traveling hours to see a doctor or going without care altogether. Since 1997, the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) at the University of Pikeville has worked to change that reality by preparing physicians to serve where they are needed most.

To build on this success, KYCOM is expanding its footprint through the addition of the Leslie Ann Dotson Medical Education Building. This transformational project will increase training capacity and prepare more future physicians to serve the region. Private philanthropic support is essential to bring this vision to life and ensure more students can be trained to meet the growing healthcare needs of Appalachia.

We need your support to help make it happen!

Today, more than 2,000 KYCOM-trained physicians provide care in hometown clinics, rural practices and regional hospitals throughout Kentucky and beyond.

KYCOM’s impact is measurable.*

  • 46% of graduates practice in Kentucky
  • 43% serve in rural communities
  • 72% practice primary care

These outcomes mean more patients receiving care close to home, stronger local healthcare systems and healthier communities across Appalachia and the Commonwealth.
