The BEAR Healthcare Clinic is a free, student-run clinic established in 2024 through the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM). It stands as the first student-run free clinic in Eastern Kentucky, dedicated to improving access to quality, compassionate care for patients across the region and surrounding areas. All clinical and non-clinical staff serve as volunteers, united by a shared mission to provide holistic, patient-centered healthcare to underserved communities. The clinic operates through an interdisciplinary model that brings together the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine, UPIKE School of Social Work, Tanner College of Dental Medicine, Appalachian College of Pharmacy, UPIKE Thrive Center, UPIKE Coleman College of Business and Elliott School of Nursing. Together, these partners form a collaborative network that integrates medicine, social services, behavioral health, dentistry and community wellness to ensure every patient is cared for with dignity, respect and the full scope of integrative, osteopathic-inspired care.
