The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) has announced the launch of a new Master of Science (M.S.) in Strategic Communication, a fully online graduate program designed to prepare students for the evolving landscape of communication in a digital, AI-powered world.
Part of UPIKE’s College of Arts and Sciences, the 30-credit hour program can be completed in as little as one calendar year or extended to two years for greater flexibility. The M.S. in Strategic Communication is tailored to meet the needs of recent graduates and working professionals seeking to advance their careers in public relations, digital media, corporate communications and related fields.
“We are thrilled to offer a master’s degree in strategic communication, and I am confident this degree will prepare students for today’s workplace needs,” said Chandra K. Massner, Ph.D., professor and coordinator of UPIKE’s communication program. “As the demand for skilled communication professionals grows across industries, this graduate program will equip students with advanced skills in strategic planning, digital media, AI, crisis communication and leadership, preparing them to tackle complex communication challenges.”
The program’s curriculum emphasizes integrating theory, practice and artificial intelligence. Dynamic courses give students hands-on experience with emerging tools that enhance audience engagement, content creation and campaign optimization. Unlike traditional communication programs, UPIKE’s offering uniquely prepares graduates to thrive in AI-driven environments across sectors like technology, healthcare, politics, nonprofits and entertainment.
Students will develop critical thinking, research and creative skills through a rigorous curriculum. By combining strategic communication principles with real-world applications of AI, graduates will be equipped to lead in a rapidly changing professional landscape.
