UPIKE hosts Hazard alumni and friends luncheon

Friends of the University of Pikeville, both new and old, gathered over barbeque in Hazard, Ky. The event at Big Blue Smokehouse drew a buzzing crowd of alumni ready to reminisce and network.

In addition to UPIKE’s advancement and alumni team, guests were welcomed by Provost Lori Werth, Ph.D., and UPIKE Football Coach Allan Holland Jr.

After a few hellos and introductions, the group took their seats to enjoy traditional southern fare while continuing conversations. Kyle Collier (PC ‘10) was one of the many UPIKE alumni in attendance who not only sees the many benefits of attending these events but also a glimpse into the very bright future of education in the region.

“UPIKE is no doubt a pride of the mountains,” said Collier. “Gathering at these events is a great way to connect with past and present. It is overwhelming and encouraging to see where the university is heading under the great leadership of President Webb, Provost Werth and Governor Patton. Undoubtedly our youth is in great hands with a family on the hill.”

Not only do alumni and friends enjoy connecting at these events, but UPIKE’s leaders also often leave the events feeling inspired with renewed passion for the university’s mission.

“Connecting with our alumni and friends from Hazard provided an opportunity to learn more about their work within the community and commitment to serving the region,” said Werth. “We are so proud of the work taking place by our alumni.”

UPIKE alumni engagement events highlight the loyalty and support of the university’s many graduates and friends. Events are held in various parts of the country throughout the year. For an updated list of 2019 alumni events, email alumni@upike.edu or call (606) 218-5276.
