UPIKE hits home run in Cincinnati with alumni event

University of Pikeville alumni and friends recently traveled to Cincinnati to attend a major league baseball game at the Great American Ballpark. With a sold-out crowd in the Staples Triple Play Suites, UPIKE hosted 75 guests to watch the Reds face off against the Chicago Cubs. Guests of the university enjoyed a buffet and fantastic view from left field.

UPIKE alum Tommy Chamberlin, who helped inaugurate the event years ago, says this is just one of many opportunities to reconnect with friends of the university.

“Participating as an attendee, this is one of my favorite UPIKE events,” said Chamberlin. “It is a fun atmosphere where I can enjoy socializing with other alums and take in a Reds game all at the same time.”

Alumni and friends were also treated to a special guest appearance from Cincinnati Reds mascot Mr. Redlegs, who is also a UPIKE alum. In addition to bringing the iconic Reds mascot to life for fans, Brady McClure (‘18) previously filled the role of Pikey the Bear during his time at UPIKE.

Longtime attendee Sarah Rowe enjoys going to the event every year with her family.

“We never miss a year,” said Rowe. “It is so much fun to be with people from UPIKE and make special memories.”

Ending the evening with a big win for the Reds, guests witnessed a beautiful firework display from the outdoor viewing deck of the suite. The event was once again a home run for UPIKE and will be a continued tradition.
