The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) hosted its first December commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 13, to recognize 88 graduates who had achieved academic milestones. The event took place in Booth Auditorium and was live-streamed for family and friends via UPIKE’s YouTube channel.
Graduates were awarded degrees from the College of Nursing and Human Services, the Coleman College of Business, the College of Arts and Sciences and the Patton College of Education. This inaugural December ceremony marks the university’s continued growth and commitment to offering additional opportunities for students to complete their programs and celebrate their achievements among peers and loved ones.
UPIKE President Burton J. Webb, Ph.D., recognized the significance of the moment and encouraged the graduates to pursue their dreams, but to remember to maintain a connection to their families.
“We are so proud of you. Go forth into the adult world. Go forth into the world of work and make the best of what you have,” said Webb. “And when you’ve done that, come home. Because your parents, your family, your friends and your university will be standing here with open arms, ready to welcome you back.”
