UPIKE Alumni Association hosts sold-out annual alumni event in Cincinnati

The University of Pikeville Alumni Association returned to the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati for a night of baseball on July 2.

Activities began at 7:10 p.m. in Center Field Pavilion, where more than 100 UPIKE alumni, families and friends watched the Reds take on the Chicago Cubs before a crowd of over 40 thousand spectators. Alumni had the opportunity to reconnect, enjoy dinner and witness spectacular fireworks following the game.

UPIKE President Burton J. Webb, Ph.D., and First Lady Kay Webb, Ph.D., joined the largest group to ever attend the university’s Cincinnati Reds Event.

“This event was a great return to normalcy. UPIKE has been looking forward to hosting an alumni event,” said Director of Alumni Relations, Lisa Blackburn. “This sold-out event kicked off a season of exciting alumni gatherings taking place in several cities.”

UPIKE alum and owner of Parkway Pharmacy in Salyersville, Ky., Jesse Rudd ‘00, enjoyed the event with his family.

“I was able to reconnect with a few friends I had not seen in many years, and it was nice to have interaction with them face-to-face as opposed to virtually,” said Rudd. “My family and I had a great time during the game and enjoyed the fireworks that concluded the night.”

Former UPIKE Tennis player and Match Point Tennis Academy owner in London, Ky., Renzo Lopez ‘03, brought his family to the event and appreciated the opportunity to visit other alums.

“It is important to me to be able to reconnect with my alma mater and continue to make significant connections,” said Lopez. “It was especially nice to visit with UPIKE Trustee Emeritus Bill Baird. We are thankful the alumni association coordinates these special events and look forward to attending more of them in the future.”

Alumni events throughout the year provide an opportunity for UPIKE graduates to make valuable connections and are essential to maintain and expand the university’s mission.
