The University of Pikeville (UPIKE) is pleased to announce the launch of its newest graduate program, the Master of Science in Information Technology Management (MITM), beginning in Spring 2026. This innovative program is designed to meet the growing demand for highly skilled IT leaders capable of driving digital transformation across industries and communities.
Offered through the Coleman College of Business (CCOB), the 31-credit-hour program provides a flexible online learning format tailored to working professionals. The curriculum features core IT management courses, business and communication electives and a practicum offering immersive, real-world application.
“The MITM program reflects UPIKE’s commitment to developing forward-thinking leaders who can navigate the demands of a rapidly changing digital landscape,” said Dean of CCOB Christopher M. Harris, D.B.A. “It offers a rigorous, relevant education with a focus on innovation, accessibility and real-world impact across our region.”
UPIKE Assistant Professor of IT Amitava Bose Bapi sees firsthand how much students and the region benefit when technology education is both practical and accessible.
“This new program equips learners with advanced skills in cybersecurity, data analytics and IT leadership while staying true to our mission to serve Appalachia,” said Bapi. “It will open meaningful career pathways for our students and strengthen the digital future of our communities.”
Tailored to the needs of rural Appalachia, the program promotes economic growth and addresses critical issues such as the digital divide and IT infrastructure in healthcare and education. Students will gain practical skills through courses and electives in areas such as cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, strategic communication and cloud computing.
Graduates will be equipped to pursue careers as IT managers, cybersecurity analysts, project leads, and more across industries, including healthcare, education and finance.
