Several programs at the University of Pikeville (UPIKE) substantially grew from generous donations made during the Giving Tuesday philanthropy event by alumni, donors, friends, faculty and staff. The event allowed donors to choose a particular college, athletic team or club/organization on campus and then challenge their family, friends or teammates to also give.
This year’s Giving Tuesday marked the sixth year that UPIKE has participated in the international celebration of philanthropy. The day of giving highlights the achievements of faculty, staff and students across campus, seeking to raise funds for various initiatives.
Generous gifts were received from 137 donors across 19 states bringing in more than $15,000, becoming the event’s most successful year to date.
The highest-earning featured program was the UPIKE Archery Team. More than $1,900 was raised to support travel, equipment and other needs of the archery program.
Other top earning areas were the UPIKE Choir, Honest Athletes and the Joseph D. Valentino Endowed Scholarship.
“Every dollar raised during this campaign has a direct impact for our students,” said UPIKE Vice President for Advancement David R. Hutchens. “We truly appreciate everyone’s generosity and support of the university.”
