More than performance. Music at UPIKE is about community, creativity and connection. Whether you’re majoring in music, music education or simply want to keep your passion alive through ensemble work or private lessons, UPIKE’s music program offers a space to grow as both an artist and individual. With opportunities in choir, band and more, students from every major can explore their voice, sharpen their skills and take the stage.

A large group of UPIKE students and faculty pose for a group photo in front of a stone wall engraved with "University of Pikeville." Some hold musical instruments, while others wear matching black performance shirts. The setting is a landscaped outdoor area with greenery and stairs behind the group.
A choir of students dressed in black sings on risers during a performance. They hold black folders and are arranged in rows, with a flutist performing in the front left of the group.
A student with long blonde hair is seated, focused on playing a violin in a rehearsal room. She wears a gray sweatshirt and reads sheet music placed on a black music stand in front of her.
A concert band performs on stage. A young man in the center plays a saxophone solo, standing among other seated musicians. Everyone is dressed in black, and percussion instruments are visible in the background.
A classroom scene shows several students and an instructor engaged in a music theory activity. Students stand next to desks, gesturing with their hands, while the instructor observes. The room has overhead lights, large windows, and computer workstations.
A student passionately sings into a microphone during a live performance. She has long, curly blonde hair and wears a black shirt. A pianist is visible slightly behind her on the left.

Can I Make Music at UPIKE If I'm Not a Music Major?

Absolutely! You don’t have to be a music major to participate in UPIKE’s music programs. Students from all majors are welcome to join band, choir, piano performance, and applied study (private lessons) for instruments or voice.Through the University of Pikeville Arts Program, non-music majors can take part in ensembles and private instruction with the support of Participation Awards—an opportunity to help cover educational expenses while doing something you love.

For students looking to deepen their musical studies, UPIKE also offers a minor in music, which is open to students of all backgrounds and experience levels.
