UPIKE Branding

The University of Pikeville brand consists of much more than logos and trademarks. The colors, typography, graphics, design, photography, video and editorial style that make up the UPIKE brand are concrete expressions that convey the University’s brand pillars and personality traits in all of our communications and marketing materials.

By having a strong, unified brand we shape our audience perception and cultivate a personal connection through the stories we tell.

Colors

The selection of our primary color palette showcases our bold nature. Orange (PMS 165C) is the University of Pikeville main color and should be present in designs whenever possible.

University Logo

The main lockup logo with “UPIKE” and “University of Pikeville” together, is the primary option to represent the UPIKE. This logo is a graphic element – not a typeface. Do not try to to recreate the logo with another typeface, no matter how similar.

Secondary Options

The short logotype of “UPIKE” and long logotype of “University of Pikeville” are both secondary options when the university logo is used.

Color Options

The preferred logo use is the standard 2-color or 3-color main lock version. “UPIKE” in orange with a white inline and with “University of Pikeville” in white or black.

If one color is needed, use white or black.

Space Requirements

To ensure the integrity and visual impact of the logo, the appropriate “clear space” must be maintained on all sides. The logo should be prominent and legible, using proper spacing and sizing.

“x” is equal to the height of the main lock UPIKE logo, there must be a minimum of 1/2 the distance of “x” between the outside edge of the logo and any other page element, including the edge of the page.

The Logo + Tagline

There is vertical and horizontal options of the university logo with the official university tagline. When using the logo and the tagline, only use one of the two options below. The same color options and space requirements for the main logo also apply to logo + tagline options

Incorrect Usage

In order to remain consistent, the following uses of the UPIKE marks are not allowed.

Video Animation

The UPIKE logo should never be rendered in 3D. The exception to this guideline is building signage that will exist in a physical, real-world environment.

The logo does not bend, break, or change form. It can be revealed through transition or effect, which should be added on a layer above the logo, but not to the logo itself.

College and School/Division Logos

College Logos

College logos are used to brand individual colleges within the university. (Colleges include the College of Arts and Sciences, Coleman College of Business, College of Nursing and Human Services, Patton College of Education, Kentucky College of Optometry and Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine.) College logos can replace the main university logo on promotional materials. College logos can be used with or without the university seal. To receive access to a logo, contact the Public Affairs Office.

SCHOOL/DIVISION LOGOS

School/Division logos are used to identify individual schools or divisions within a college. Any school, division or department is eligible to receive a logo and must be created through the Public Affairs Office. School/Divison logos can be used to replace the main university logo on promotional materials.

Color Options

The preferred logo use is the standard 2-color version with “University of Pikeville” and the line underneath in black or white and the college name in orange. If using the college logo with the seal, the colors of the seal must not be edited. There are only two- and three-color versions of the seal/college logo. If only one color is required, use the college logo without the seal.

Incorrect Usage

The logo may not be reconstructed or altered in any way. This prohibition includes, but is not restricted to, type, the vertical line, outlines and embellishments. Do not create secondary logos, as this is confusing to audiences and dilutes our goal of creating a common, mutually reinforcing image.

Additional University Marks

There are many logo marks and graphics associated with the university. The marks used below have specific criteria

UNIVERSITY SEAL
The seal is used only for official university communications. It is reserved for more limited use than the primary and secondary logos.

Usage
Diplomas and Graduation Material
Transcripts
University Accomplishments

HEALTH PROFESSIONS PATCHES

These patches should only be used for official university white coats and scrubs to be worn by students and faculty of that program. They should not be duplicated for any purpose or used on any print or digital materials.

Typography

The University of Pikeville fonts are a visual extension of the brand. Google’s Roboto, and Teko are the mainstays that provide a strong, refined, yet academic style representative of the University and strengthen the brand with consistent use. Use all three typefaces to create emphasis and information and messaging within your communications.
