Honors Housing

The University of Pikeville offers Honors Housing as an option to all first-year students accepted into the Honors Program prior to or during their first year at UPIKE.

With 19 students and one Faculty in Residence, Gillespie Hall gives residents a sense of community. The residence hall features a large common room with plenty of space to socialize and study, access to 24-hour printing, a kitchenette and a community television. Rooms are suite style with Jack and Jill bathrooms shared between neighbors. Gillespie Hall is also close to many academic buildings.

If you are interested in living in Honors Housing, simply indicate this on your housing application. Visit the Honors Program page more information on eligibility and the application process.

Affinity Housing

Affinity Housing promotes a community with shared interests in a residential setting. Students who choose to be a member of affinity housing will have the opportunity to develop a residential community that encompasses academics, leadership and/or personal interests.

Affinity Housing may be comprised of members of student organizations, athletic teams, students within the same major, or a group of friends with similar interests. Groups will set annual goals for programming and outreach consistent with the mission and purpose of the community. Communities will also maintain a close relationship with the Office of Residence Life by meeting once per semester.

Selected residents will live in Page Hall with newly renovated bathrooms and will be guaranteed an entire suite and placed in rooms prior to the start of the housing selection process.

Groups will be expected to complete the following:

  • Select a group leader prior to applying. The leader will be responsible for completing the application and will be the primary liaison between the group and the Office of Residence Life.
  • Submit a brief end-of-semester report detailing the activities of the affinity group.
  • Plan and execute one area-wide program or activity for the UPIKE community each semester.
  • Meet once per semester as a group with a professional member of the Residence Life staff.
  • Each member of the group must maintain a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5.
  • Each member of the group must maintain a Student Conduct status below probation.
  • If a student or group violates the above expectations, the individual or group will be disbanded and housing will be administratively reassigned by the Director of Residence Life

Should a student or group violate any of the above expectations, the individual or group will be disbanded and housing will be reassigned by the Director of Residence Life.

Criteria for Selection

  • A thoughtful, well-written, detailed and clear application
  • A cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for each member of the group

Selected groups will be notified of placement in their selection notification. Selected groups are not permitted to decline their placement.
