BEARS@WORK, powered by Purple Briefcase, is a free job search website connecting UPIKE students to federal work-study positions, part-time and full-time job opportunities, internships and more.

As a student, access your account by using your UPIKE email address and password.

Within BEARS@WORK you can find helpful tutorials with videos, interview tips and event information. You can also earn points as you utilize BEARS@WORK resources that can be redeemed for t-shirts, flash drives or padfolios.

You earn points when you apply for jobs or upload your resume.

Where do I start?

Log in to BEARS@WORK

Visit the BEARS@WORK website and log in using your UPIKE account information

Search for jobs
  • From the menu on the left on BEARS@WORK, click on my jobs
  • Your suggested searches will pop up – (if you completed your profile)
  • When navigating in the “Jobs” tab, type in keywords or job titles (or click to see all and scroll through)
  • Click on the job to see the description and requirements
  • Click on the arrow to apply
Apply for positions
  • Create a resume
  • Click on the “Apply” arrow on the job description
  • Upload your resume in BEARS@WORK
  • Provide a brief introduction that includes why you are interested in the position
  • Click the white and orange “Apply” button
  • Apply for multiple jobs at the same time
Interview for jobs when contacted by employers 
  • Be sure to dress appropriately for the position and don’t forget you can get free professional clothing available through the Career Closet
  • Brush up on some interviewing tips found on BEARS@WORK under
  • Bring a copy of your class schedule to the interview
  • Review the job description and be prepared to demonstrate how you can succeed in the position
  • Refer to relevant experience you have (volunteer work, class, part-time job, job shadow experiences)
  • If you haven’t heard from the interviewer after two work days, be sure to follow up
Accept the position
  • If offered a position you’ll need to decide if you’ll decline or accept the offer
  • Always communicate! If you accept or decline, email the supervisor and let them know promptly.
  • Give your supervisor a copy of your class schedule.
  • Also, be sure to log your success on BEARS@WORK
    • Click on the job and then click hired
Required by UPIKE
  • Fill out a Federal Work Study Authorization form with your supervisor
  • Take the form to the Financial Aid office located on the ground floor of UPIKE’s administration building
  • Financial Aid will confirm your award, the position and forward the information to Human Resources
  • If you have worked for UPIKE and submitted time on WebAdvisor previously, you may be fast-tracked
  • If you have not worked for UPIKE previously, you will need to go to Human Resources, located at Loughlin Cottage, with the original, unexpired acceptable documents to complete tax paperwork and an I9
Begin when scheduled by a supervisor
  • After your name appears in WebAdvisor be sure to log in to record your work hours
  • Students may not begin work until the first day of classes and may not work after the last day of exams
