The Pikeville Review is an annual print publication of contemporary Appalachian fiction, poetry and creative nonfiction. Founded in 1987, The Pikeville Review is committed to celebrating the finest literature from established and emerging writers. The Pikeville Review is funded and published by the Division of Humanities at the University of Pikeville.

Submission Guidelines

Send us your best:

Prose: Fiction and creative nonfiction up to 5000 words. All prose should be double spaced and in standard font.

Poetry: Up to 5 poems. Poems may be single spaced.

Please observe the following Submission Guidelines:
  • The Pikeville Review accepts email submissions only. Send all submissions and inquiries to: PikevilleReview@upike.edu
  • Submissions should be sent as attachments to email (preferably .doc, .docx, or .rtf). Please, do NOT copy/paste your work into the body of the email.
  • The email subject line should include your name and genre (for example, Jones Fiction).
  • In the body of the email please include a brief cover letter and bio that includes your name, address, phone number, email address, and title of your submissions.
  • You may submit in multiple genres, but please send separate emails/attachments for each submission.
  • The Pikeville Review will accept simultaneous submissions, but please let us know quickly if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
Open Submission period: October 1 – December 31
Notifications will be sent in late January and publication will occur in March.
Authors will receive two contributor copies upon publication.
