Pikeville, Ky.
The works of University of Pikeville students are currently on display in the Janice Beeler Ford Student Art Gallery on the UPIKE campus.

“The exhibit in the Ford Gallery is a yearly event showcasing the best two dimensional artwork coming out of the 2015-16 academic year,” said Patricia Kowalok, professor of art. “Because the work is selected on a competitive basis, inclusion in the exhibit is a real honor. Students are being recognized for raising the bar, from meeting an assignment’s requirements to creating a work that can stand as art. Each of the works in this presentation reflects the vision of thoughtful, creative individuals. The art faculty is grateful for the university’s support of these students.”

Student work on display in the Ford Gallery include, Makayla Colley of Grayson; Dalton Daniels, Kaitlyn Good, Bradley Loader, Charles Mims, Marinalda Ralston and Christopher Ward of Pikeville; Michael Elswick of Jenkins; Lauren Feher of Levittown, Pa.; Dakota Gilkison of Morehead, Ky.; Jackson Hussey of Perth, Australia; Jasmine Isaac of Wheelwright; Hailei Nunley and Ashley Wolfe of Belfry; Sarah Prince of Winfield, W.Va.; and Andrew Pyszkowski of Williamson, W.Va.

The selected works demonstrate the highest levels of technique and vision and include ink, acrylics, graphite, white charcoal pencil and mixed media. The art pieces were created in basic drawing, two-dimensional design and painting courses.

Bradley Loader is the recipient of this year’s Janice Beeler Ford Award for Excellence in the Visual Arts.

A reception honoring the artists will be held Monday, March 28, at 6:30 p.m. in the gallery located in the Allara Library. Everyone is welcome. The exhibit runs through the spring semester.

The gallery is dedicated to the memory of Janice B. Ford who taught at the university for many years. In the classroom, Ford fostered an environment of encouragement and support for all students to experience the act of making art.
