Pikeville, Ky.
Students from Pikeville Independent Schools recently visited the University of Pikeville’s art department and participated in workshops.

Elementary students worked with fingerprint prints, mono prints, fruit and vegetable prints and made marbled paper. Junior high and high school students carved a relief print and produced an edition of three to five prints. The students are participants of Pikeville Independent’s Gifted and Talented Program.

UPIKE art faculty Petra Carroll, MFA, associate professor of art; Patricia Kowalok, MFA, professor of art; and Paula Smith, adjunct faculty in education, led the workshops.

“This is the second time students from Pikeville school system’s gifted and talented program have been able to work with UPIKE art faculty to experience something more in the art studios,” said Kowalok. “They all worked well and creatively and had a great time.”
