The Weber Art Gallery at the University of Pikeville is currently featuring “A Different Face,” the works of graduating senior Bradley Loader.

“Art has been an interest of mine throughout my life,” said Loader. “Art is something that makes us human by reflecting our thoughts and telling our stories. Stories are a means of expression and that is something I have come to appreciate. Art has allowed me to explore my thoughts and communicate my feelings.”

A native of Pikeville, Loader is majoring in art and film and media arts and is a member the of UPIKE track and cross-country teams. He was also honored as this year’s winner of the Janice Beeler Ford Award for Visual Excellence.

The senior art show meets part of the exit requirement for a graduating art major and is a reflection of the student’s development and interests. Loader’s show features a variety of two-dimensional works including acrylic, oil, graphite and ink. Three-dimensional works including, plaster, forks, wire, wood and Bristol board are also part of the show.

“Both of Bradley’s majors serve him well, as Bradley is a storyteller,” said Patricia Kowalok, MFA, professor of art. “Because he is working very hard—and successfully—at telling his story, it then becomes the language of a human being and it becomes our voice where a viewer can recognize wry humor, a commitment to craftsmanship and acknowledgement of human strengths and frailties.”

An artist’s reception will be held Thursday, April 14, at 3 p.m., in the gallery. The show will run through the end of the semester. The campus and community are invited to attend. The University of Pikeville Weber Art Gallery is located on the second floor of the Record Memorial Building. Gallery hours are: Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 2:45-5:15 p.m.; Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Fridays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3-5 p.m. For more information contact Kowalok at 218-5758 or Petra Carroll, associate professor of art, at 218-5759.
