Pikeville, KY
J.B. Gilliam, left, member of the board of directors of the Pike County Farm Bureau, presented a check to UPIKE for the Ron Damron Endowment Scholarship Fund at the University of Pikeville.

The scholarship was established earlier this year by the UPIKE women’s bowling team in recognition of Damron’s service to students. He was the only coach the UPIKE’s women’s bowling program knew for the first 16 years of its existence and led the team to four national championships before retiring from coaching in 2016. Damron came to the university 25 years ago as vice president of student services and dean of students and quickly became the director of athletics. In that role, he oversaw the massive growth of a program from five sports to more than 20. He has been named United States Bowling Congress Coach of the Year four times and coached 39 All-Americans including two national bowlers of the year. Damron currently serves as the director of planned giving.

Friends of Ron Damron or the university may contribute to the endowed scholarship. For more information, call (606) 218-5276.
