University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine second-year medical students Samir Bajwa, Will Geisen, Seth Hayes and Guñeet Ahluwalia shaved their heads to raise awareness and support for the Saint Baldrick’s Foundation, a non-profit organization that funds childhood cancer research.

The event, sponsored by the KYCOM student chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians, raised more than $1,400 to benefit pediatric cancer research.

“We’ve all been affected by cancer in one way or another, but as student doctors we rarely get to put ourselves in the shoes of the patients we hope to treat,” said William Geisen, KYCOM Class of 2018. “This event served as a vehicle for students to step outside the classroom and show support, in a nontraditional way, for their future patients.”
