Pikeville, KY
Students from the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) recently participated in an annual employee health fair at Appalachian Wireless in Ivel, Ky. Students, along with faculty, provided osteopathic screening and osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) to Appalachian Wireless employees.
Joe Kingery, D.O., assistant dean for osteopathic medical education at KYCOM, has supervised the event for the past three years.
“Students are able to gain a greater appreciation for the benefits of OMT while providing a great public service to those in attendance,” Kingery said.
The event has grown over the years and includes representatives from various local organizations.
“KYCOM coming to the Appalachian Wireless employee health fair has been a very positive experience each year,” said Karen Lowe, safety and health coordinator for East Kentucky Network. “They have helped our employees … The positive attitudes of the students and Dr. Kingery have been outstanding. Each year our employees are excited to know that the OMT students will be coming back to our annual health fair.”
