Homecoming Weekend
Football, Fireworks & Fun
As the University of Pikeville marks its 123rd year, students, alumni, parents and friends are invited to join us on the hill for Homecoming and Parents' Weekend, Sept. 24-29.

Watch the September 17 edition of Where the 99 Lead from the video link below to learn more about the week's events from UPIKE alumni Kayla Bandy and Jordan Gibson.

Medicine in the Mountains
The Opening of the Coal Building

The University of Pikeville cut the ribbon on the new home for the Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) on Sept. 15 as hundreds gathered in front of the historic 99 steps to celebrate the occasion.
Rosemary Holbrook
"Looking back now, I'm so thankful that I decided to attend Pikeville, because it truly has shaped my life in so many positive ways! I have many great memories from my time at Pikeville, and more importantly, I have developed friendships with fellow Pikeville alumni, faculty, and staff that I will treasure forever!"

  Dear Bears Fan,

Welcome to the UPIKENEWS, the official newsletter of the University of Pikeville Alumni Association.

Things are jumping at UPIKE! After a wonderful dedication ceremony for the new Coal Building last weekend, the campus is gearing up for Homecoming Week. Whether it has been years or months since you last visited campus and climbed the '99, you should consider returning for Homecoming/Parents Weekend on September 28-29. It's a great time to reconnect with other UPIKE alumni, see your favorite professor, and explore what's new on campus. It's a weekend you won't want to miss.

As valued alumni, we want to hear about you and include your stories in upcoming issues of the newsletter. Please send us your stories and pictures and help us celebrate our UPIKE alumni. Also, check out the Save the Date section below for upcoming events.

On behalf of the Alumni Association and the University of Pikeville community, Go Bears!

Student Spotlight
Brittany Brophy

Brittany Brophy "There is nothing special or different about me. I'm a freshman golfer, I love college and I love UPIKE, that's all." At first, I didn't think much of it, and felt the same way. I expected to write a basic story about a homesick freshman that misses their parents, friends, and siblings. Little did I know, Brittany has a unique and admirable story to tell.

Alumni Awards Banquet
Join us Saturday, Sept. 29, at the East Ky. Expo Center for the annual Alumni Awards Banquet. We will honor several of our outstanding alumni. To RSVP call (606) 218-5276 or e-mail alumni@upike.edu.

Previous Award Recipients
Golf Outing
UPIKE Missions
This year's golf outing will benefit the UPIKE Mission Fund in support of KYCOM's annual mission trip to the Dominican Repuplic and UPIKE's upcoming mission trip to Haiti.

Fresh Faces
New Faculty on Campus
There are lots of fresh faces on campus this year, especially with all of the new students. But 14 of those new faces are new faculty members. Click below to meet the mentors of UPIKE's next graduates.
Spiritual Life
LifeTree Cafe
The key to LifeTree is that all are welcome and that all are given a chance to be heard and to hear others. Lifetree Café is a comfortable place and time to gather weekly to explore life and faith. It looks and feels like the kind of place you'd typically meet a friend for food, drink and fun and where the atmosphere encourages conversations, questions, and personal stories.

KYCOM Alumnus Honored
Top Resident at Palmetto Health
Spencer Robinson

"My entire career has been spent in academic medicine, and I have worked with some amazing young physicians in that time. Spencer has generated a list of accolades that I have never encountered," said Dr. Thomas Cook, director of the hospital's emergency medicine residency program.
