Alumni Gather
For a Weekend of Fun & Storytelling
Training School

This past weekend, 80 alumni from the Training School, Academy, Junior College, and Pikeville College gathered in Pikeville for a group reunion, many of whom had not seen Pikeville in 60 years. The activities began on Friday, June 22, as the group gathered at the East Ky. Expo Center for dinner and storytelling.

Student Spotlight
Nick Hunt

by Kayla Morgan, Senior English Major

Nick Hunt
One of the most interesting and hardworking locals I've met is Nick Hunt. Hunt is a junior English major from Belfry, Ky. In his first year at Pikeville, he played baseball and lived on campus. During his second year, he chose to move home and travel 20 minutes to class each day. Ironically, when he moved back home to live with his parents, he became much more involved on campus.

The Power of Partnerships
Spiritual Life

The spiritual life team at UPIKE wants to celebrate the community partnerships and teamwork that are occurring on campus. With a growing student body and the vast, unique, and diverse needs of our students, it is vital to realize that one person or a few people cannot adequately meet the spiritual needs of the UPIKE family.

Golf Outing Recap
Nova Pharmacy
Last Thursday, the football team hosted their first golf outing at the Mountain Pub-Links Golf Course on John's Creek, Ky. Eight teams participated in the outing to raise funds for the program. Lunch was provided by Food City of Pikeville and the Pepsi Bottling Group with many deserts and sides being provided by the UPIKE Alumni Association. Local businesses donated dozens of prizes, in support of the team, to be to be used in the tricky tray drawing. After lunch, coaches and staff drew for the winners. The day ended with the finals of a competitive putting contest.

Dear Jordan,

Welcome to UPIKENEWS, the official newsletter of the University of Pikeville Alumni Association.

This month's edition is filled with numerous stories and images both on and off campus. This past weekend, a group of 80 alumni of the Training School, Academy, Junior College, and Pikeville College gathered to share stories, look at pictures from their days as students, and take a tour of campus and the city of Pikeville. Other stories and images include a delightful story about 96 years young UPIKE alumna Rhoda Jane Claytor, images from the UPIKE Singers trip to Ireland, and a fun SOAR video from this summer that you won't want to miss.

The campus continues to be a busy place this summer with faculty and staff moving into the new medical building, students attending summer classes, SOAR sessions welcoming incoming students, and faculty and staff making preparations for the fall semester.

As valued alumni, we want to hear about you and include your stories in upcoming issues of the newsletter. Please send us your stories and pictures and help us celebrate our UPIKE alums. If you have been away from campus for too long, check out the "Save the Date" section of the newsletter for upcoming events.

On behalf of the Alumni Association and the University of Pikeville community, Go Bears!
