The Board of Trustees has named James L. Hurley president-elect of the university, effective July 1, 2013. Hurley currently serves as the vice president for enrollment and retention and as special assistant to the president.

Celebrates 1st Graduating Class 
COM Grad
"Today, let us contemplate the brightness of your future. You have achieved a special honor and distinction," U.S. Senator Rand Paul, M.D., said in his keynote address to graduates of the KYCOM on Saturday, May 19. The 64 new physicians in the Class of 2012 are the first to graduate under the institution's new name, the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine.

The transition to a new college in a new town, and perhaps a new state, can be overwhelming for some people. Imagine being a young man from a different country packing your bags and starting a new life in Pikeville, Ky. That is exactly what Simmern, Germany, native Sven Rodenbusch did.

A New Way to Worship


"I have never thought about God this way before, I can't tell you how much these services have impacted me!" This is one of the many student voices describing the recent 737 services at UPIKE.



Junior Masters
UPIKE Bowler Finishes Third 
Derek Perkins
UPIKE men's bowler Derek Perkins recently competed in the 2012 Junior Masters on May 13, in Kettering, Oh. Perkins, who is from Oklahoma City, Ok, worked his way through the tournament to finish in third place.


New Majors Added
Film/Media, Spanish, Sport Mgmt.

This fall there will be several new majors for the students of UPIKE. For the first time in the school's long history there will be a foreign language major with the recently approved Spanish major. Additionally, the newly established film & media arts and sport management  programs have been approved as majors.

We are pleased to share with you that UPIKE Alumnus, James L. Hurley, was named president-elect effective July 1, 2013. As part of the UPIKE community, we are proud of Vice President Hurley's work on behalf of the university the last three years and look forward to a bright future under his leadership.

With a $20,000 award at stake, Dr. Pearse Lyons, president of Alltech, has challenged the students of three Kentucky universities - the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville and the University of Pikeville - to create jobs in the Commonwealth.

College of Arts and Sciences
Celebrates 1st Graduating Class 
CAS Grad
The University of Pikeville's College of Arts and Sciences celebrated the academic achievements of 163 graduates on Saturday, May 19. The Class of 2012 is the first to graduate under the university name. Sara Osborne of Pikeville was honored as valedictorian and Ashley Crutcher of Batavia, Ohio, was salutatorian.

"A great university can measure its worth by its alumni." This is the philosophy of UPIKE's very own Alumni Association President, Kay Hammond. Kay serves as the director of the Appalachian Pregnancy Care Center in Pikeville.

KYCOM Mission Trip
Christian Medical Association 


On July 17, twenty three medical students will participate in an eight-day mission trip to the Dominican Republic. While there they will assist in providing for the medical and dental needs of the citizens of Batey Nueve.

This summer there will be a reunion for Pikeville Training School, Academy, and Junior College graduates. The event will take place on the weekend of Friday, June 22 and Sat. 23, in Pikeville.

The UPIKE Football team will be hosting a golf outing on Thursday, June 21 at the Mountain Pub-Links Golf Course on John's Creek.

Seven student-athletes were honored for their play and 10 were honored 11 times for their work in the classroom by the Mid-South Conference.
