Damron Earns 3rd Coach of Year Title

Peter Zajac, D.O., FACOFP, has received his designation as a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) during its Annual Conclave of Fellows Award Ceremony at the ACOFP 49th Annual Convention & Scientific Seminar in Kissimmee, Fla.

The University of Pikeville is seeking nominations. The Hall of Fame was established to honor distinguished individuals who have made a significant impact on the education profession and have dedicated themselves to advancing education excellence.

Johnny Belcher 
Milken Educator

UPIKE President Paul E. Patton congratulates Johnny Belcher, a Pikeville High School teacher who was selected as a Milken Family Foundation Educator, on April 10. Belcher, was the only teacher in Kentucky to receive the award this year. He serves as an adjunct faculty teaching dual credit mathematics courses to high school students. The honor also includes a $25,000 award.

Hail to the Champions! The UPIKE Women's Bowling Team is the national NAIA champ. We are so proud of our Women's Bowling Team and their national coach of the year, Ron Damron. There are so many exciting things happening on campus as we sprint towards the end of the semester, Click on any of the stories to learn about the accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff over the last month.

The University of Pikeville Bears claimed their first NAIA women's bowling championship on Sunday with a 3-0, 3-0 sweep of No. 1 seed Webber International University.

The University of Pikeville recently held its annual Honors Convocation, a celebration of academic excellence and student achievement. Outstanding students in each academic major were individually recognized. Members of honor societies, academic clubs and organizations, and students named to the Dean's List were also recognized. Petra Carroll, assistant professor of art, right, presented the award for outstanding art student to Amy Lester, of Stone, Ky.

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) students recently earned top honors garnering several awards in academic competition during the Kentucky spring leadership conference held on the campus of Northern Kentucky University.

UPIKE, in conjunction with Appalachian Wireless, hosted Academic Awards Night honoring the outstanding achievement of the 2012 Regional Governor's Cup award winners. More than 300 students, along with their parents and academic team coaches and principals, attended the event representing elementary, middle and high schools from six counties.
