Student Financial Aid Awarding Process
The University of Pikeville awards student financial aid giving each student at the institution scholarships/institutional grant in recognition of his or her academic achievements. Supplemental scholarships are also available to qualified students.

All aid at UPIKE is awarded to supplement the resources of the student and his or her parents. The first step is to determine financial need.  The University of Pikeville requires that students submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), designating the University of Pikeville as one of the information recipients. To receive financial assistance the student must be accepted into an eligible program of study offered by the university.

Scholarships for new freshmen are awarded on the results of the ACT score and/or conversion of the SAT score.  New students to UPIKE are mailed an award letter that contains eligible aid. Returning students to the university are sent an electronic copy of the award letter.

Academic scholarships for new transfer students are awarded on the basis of the student’s transfer GPA if they have transferred in more than 30 credit hours to the university. If the transfer student has less than 30 credit hours the academic scholarship is awarded based on the students ACT or SAT equivalent.

Need-based aid is awarded based on the student’s FAFSA data and the results from the Department of Education. Each year awarding parameters are created to distribute funds appropriately and according to federal regulations. Students are packaged with all aid available to them.

University of Pikeville students will continue to receive their academic scholarships as long as they are full time, maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA and are in good standing with the institution academically and with SAPROG guidelines.

Athletic and all other supplemental scholarships are awarded by the coach of the particular team or extracurricular activity.  An athletic contract will be completed by the coach. Once this contract is signed by the student, coach and athletic director, the contract will be sent to the financial aid office. Once processed, the athletic scholarship is added to the student’s financial aid award package.
