Complaint Process

When the Title IX office receives information alleging gender-based discrimination and/or sexual misconduct, a professional staff member who has received training in investigations will conduct the investigation. The role of the investigator is to be a neutral fact finder; the Title IX Coordinator will oversee all investigations.

Typical investigations include a review of statements from both parties, interviews with both parties, interviews with potential witnesses and review of evidence. The Complainant and Respondent have the same opportunity to present witnesses and evidence.

The Title IX Coordinator will determine if the matter will be forwarded to a hearing before the Sexual Misconduct Board. If a hearing is recommended, the Title IX Coordinator will inform the parties which sexual and/or gender based misconduct is alleged and will educate the parties on the hearing process.
