Description:

Conduct tutoring and study sessions for the Center for Academic Excellence (CAE). Utilize appropriate learning and resource environment for all undergraduate students on campus. Work with assigned students individually or in groups while developing vital learning skills, building relationships, and maintaining students’ performance during the semester. Create guidelines and helpful materials for assigned coursework.

Training:

  1. Work as a team with professional staff and other GROWL Leaders to set up and prep for in-person sessions the afternoon before GROWL date.(TW. EI) 

  1. Reach out to students prior to them attending GROWL(both in-person and virtual sessions)to introduce yourself, provide information regarding the session,and answer questions as needed.(C, P, CSD, CT, L) 

  1. Reach out to students via text/phone in the weeks following their GROWL sessionfor both in-person and virtual.Messages will include reminders about deadlines/missing information, build excitement about UPIKE FIRST Week, and to answer questions.(C, P, P, CSD, T)

Description:

Responsibilities:

Student Affairs Summer Crew Assistant

Job Function: Under the direction of the Division of Student Affairs and the Department of Facilities, the summer crew assistant performs all functions related to opening campus for the start of fall semester.  A large portion of this job is building-wide paint repair in several residence halls and other common spaces across campus, in addition to moving furniture across campus, as demands are needed.

Expectations

  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude are required.
  • Student employees should at all times be good representatives of University of Pikeville, Division of Student Affairs, and the Department of Facilities.
  • Student employees should be present and ready to work at the assigned start time.
  • Students will comply with attendance policy requirements.
  • Student employees are responsible for wearing PPE (provided by the University) at all times as appropriate while on the job. Students must comply with the department dress code.
  • Student employees are responsible for supplying their own rain gear, hats, and other protection from the elements as needed.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of time entry, project logs/assignments, and other documentation required for job performance evaluation.
  • Able to lift, carry, and/or drag items up to 50-75lbs for short periods of time.
  • Sand, scrape, and/or peel old surfaces to be removed.
  • Paint, stain, and/or seal surfaces to finish or renew.
  • Assist with equipment and supply organization and inventory.
  • Provide office support by answering phones and assisting customers.
  • Perform administrative tasks for department personnel as needed.
  • Facilitate communication with facilities services technicians and public safety officers.
  • Process work orders, key requests as needed.
  • Sort and file documents and records, including RCRs (Room Conditions Reports) and work orders.
  • Perform campus deliveries and other small errands on occasion.
  • Work with other Summer Crew Assistant staff, prepare buildings for fall occupancy, including conducting damage inspections and key inventories, preparing bulletin boards,  and submitting work orders for any existing damages.
  • Able to move load, pack and unload items with care. Pack and unpack boxes as needed, and to assemble and place furniture as needed.
  • Assist with the set-up and tear-down of chairs, tables, linens, audio/visual equipment, etc. in meeting and event spaces throughout campus.
  • Provide overnight duty coverage to guests and work closely with Public Safety and Residence Life when responding to lock-outs, maintenance issues, conduct incidents, and emergency situations as needed.
  • Attend regular staff meetings to coordinate efforts with other staff and receive updates.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Division of Student Affairs.

Dates of Employment

The Summer Crew Assistants will be a temporary position with a start date of May 8th, 2024 and will continue through July 31st, 2024. SCA will work an average of 25-30 hours per week. Hours will vary from week to week to week based on project timeline. SCAs must be available to work weekend and evening hours when required.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50
  • Must be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct and in good legal standing in the state of Kentucky.
  • Summer Crew Assistants will need to have approval from their supervisor regarding additional employment while employed as a Summer Crew Assistant
  • Summer Crew Assistant will need to have approval from their supervisor regarding any courses taken over the summer
  • Must be enrolled in classes for Fall 2024
  • Summer Crew Assistants are required to live on-campus for the summer and are provided housing.
  • Although dining services will not be available for most of the summer, SCAs will be provided food through dining services as available based on the summer events schedule; if the cafeteria is open, you will be able to eat for free.
  • Housing contracts for SCAs will end on August 5th. This means that CAs who are not living on campus for the 2024-2025 academic year will need to find other housing accommodations by August 5th.

Student Affairs Summer Crew Assistant

Job Function: Under the direction of the Division of Student Affairs and the Department of Facilities, the summer crew assistant performs all functions related to opening campus for the start of fall semester.  A large portion of this job is building-wide paint repair in several residence halls and other common spaces across campus, in addition to moving furniture across campus, as demands are needed.

Expectations

  • Good communication skills and a positive attitude are required.
  • Student employees should at all times be good representatives of University of Pikeville, Division of Student Affairs, and the Department of Facilities.
  • Student employees should be present and ready to work at the assigned start time.
  • Students will comply with attendance policy requirements.
  • Student employees are responsible for wearing PPE (provided by the University) at all times as appropriate while on the job. Students must comply with the department dress code.
  • Student employees are responsible for supplying their own rain gear, hats, and other protection from the elements as needed.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of time entry, project logs/assignments, and other documentation required for job performance evaluation.

  • Assist with the set-up and tear-down of chairs, tables, linens, audio/visual equipment, etc. in meeting and event spaces throughout campus.
  • Provide overnight duty coverage to guests and work closely with Public Safety and Residence Life when responding to lock-outs, maintenance issues, conduct incidents, and emergency situations as needed.
  • Attend regular staff meetings to coordinate efforts with other staff and receive updates.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by the Division of Student Affairs.

The Summer Crew Assistants will be a temporary position with a start date of May 8th, 2024 and will continue through July 31st, 2024. SCA will work an average of 25-30 hours per week. Hours will vary from week to week to week based on project timeline. SCAs must be available to work weekend and evening hours when required.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum grade point average of 2.50
  • Must be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct and in good legal standing in the state of Kentucky.
  • Summer Crew Assistants will need to have approval from their supervisor regarding additional employment while employed as a Summer Crew Assistant
  • Summer Crew Assistant will need to have approval from their supervisor regarding any courses taken over the summer
  • Must be enrolled in classes for Fall 2024
  • Summer Crew Assistants are required to live on-campus for the summer and are provided housing.
  • Although dining services will not be available for most of the summer, SCAs will be provided food through dining services as available based on the summer events schedule; if the cafeteria is open, you will be able to eat for free.
  • Housing contracts for SCAs will end on August 5th. This means that CAs who are not living on campus for the 2024-2025 academic year will need to find other housing accommodations by August 5th.
