UPIKE business lecture series Sept. 22

UPIKE alumni John Kitchen and Chad Sellers will be the featured speakers for the University of Pikeville’s Coleman College of Business Speakers and Leadership Series. They will present “Successful Careers in Medical Technology Sales.” The event is set for Friday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. in Booth Auditorium.

A native of Hindman, Kitchen came to Pikeville College on basketball and tennis scholarships. A stand-out student-athlete, Kitchen twice earned Mid-South Conference All-Conference team honors. He is UPIKE’s all-time assist leader with 756 career assists and the single season leader with 300 assists and has been named to UPIKE’s Hall of Fame for both basketball and tennis. He continued his athletic career after college and played professional basketball in Asia.

Kitchen returned to his alma mater and served as the men’s and women’s tennis coach and was named the Conference and Regional Coach of the Year four times. Under his coaching tenure, he produced the college’s first national champion tennis player, David Martin, and the first number one ranked national team in school history. Additionally, Kitchen worked with the college’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.

Kitchen has extensive experience in sales within the healthcare industry. He worked as a district sales representative for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals where he earned the title of Rookie of the Year and District Representative of the Year. Additionally, he served as a national trainer for Pfizer. He worked for Netgain Technologies/GE Healthcare where he earned the title of Salesperson of the Year numerous times while managing four sales representatives.

Since 2011, Kitchen has served as a territory sales manager for CR Bard, a leading multinational developer, manufacturer and marketer of innovative, life-enhancing medical technologies in the fields of vascular, urology, oncology and surgical specialties. CR Bard markets its products and services worldwide to hospitals, individual health care professionals, extended care facilities and alternate site facilities. Since his employment with CR Bard, Kitchen has been recognized as the number four sales representative out of the 120 reps within his territory.

Also a student-athlete, Sellers earned his bachelor of business administration degree in accounting while playing on the tennis team where he was selected to the Mid-South Conference All-Conference team twice.

Sellers currently serves as district sales manager for Nevro Corporation, a startup medical device company headquartered in Redwood City, Calif. Nevro’s mission is to help patients suffering from chronic pain ailments. Nevro has explored beyond traditional pain management procedures in search of better therapeutic outcomes.

Prior to his current role, Sellers has amassed quite an impressive resume in sales and financial planning. He has worked for Morgan Stanley, Benchmark Mortgage, Verizon Yellow Pages, Forest Pharmaceuticals and Boston Scientific.

Sellers lives in Lexington with his wife, Brandi, who also works for Nevro, and their son, Gage.
