Pikeville, Ky.
The University of Pikeville has earned the distinction of being one of the “Best Places to Work in Kentucky.”

The award, the third for UPIKE, was presented to Paul Patton, chancellor and interim president, and Krystal Riffe, human resources coordinator, during the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM) and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce’s 11th annual Best Places to Work awards dinner in Lexington, Ky., on April 14.

The University of Pikeville was ranked 31st in the medium-sized employer category (150-499 employees). Awards were presented to companies in the small, medium and large size categories. Managed by Best Companies Group, the selection process is based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey. The competition is a multi-year initiative designed to motivate companies in the commonwealth to focus, measure and move their workplace environments toward excellence. Numerous studies show a strong correlation between profitability and creating a good place to work. The Best Places to Work in Kentucky initiative is based on FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work for in America” list.

Mike Pacheco, MSHRM, SPHR, who serves as UPIKE’s human resources director, attributes the positive work environment to the faculty and staff, who are passionate about the university’s mission.

“This award recognizes our dedication, hard work and commitment to excellence. The passion that the UPIKE family demonstrates daily is truly heartwarming,” Pacheco said.

The KYSHRM organization consists of 13 local chapters throughout the state, with a membership of more than 1,500 human resources and business professionals across all industries. The Kentucky Chamber of Commerce is the only business association in the state advocating for companies of all sizes and industries across the commonwealth. The Kentucky Chamber represents the interests of more than 60,000 Kentucky employers from Paducah to Pikeville.
