Pikeville College honor academic achievement

PIKEVILLE, KY
Pikeville College recently held its annual Honors Convocation, a celebration of academic excellence and student achievement.

Outstanding students in each academic major were individually recognized. Members of honor societies, academic clubs and organizations and students named to the Dean’s List were also recognized.

Individuals honored for outstanding academic achievement in their field of study were Leah Brooke Robinson of Elkhorn City, elementary education; Taylor Elizabeth Mosley of Martin, history and secondary education; Maranda J. Elswick of Big Rock, Va., biology; Josiah A. Mullins of Pikeville, business administration; Bradley G. Bryant of Pikeville, communication; Christopher K. Vincini of Cumberland, criminal justice; Gary T. Smith of Virgie, art and English; Megan L. Smith of Pikeville, English; Joseph T. Hall of Pikeville, history/political science; Tyler J. Little of Neon, mathematics; David Thacker of Elkhorn City, first-year nursing; Ashton P. Bartley of Pikeville, social work; Meshala L. Bartley of Pikeville, sociology; and Sumer M. Bingham of Elkhorn City, psychology and religion.

Awards were presented to winners of the Pikeville College 2011 Writers’ Competition in the categories of critical writing, fiction, creative non-fiction and poetry. The Sylvia Trent Auxier Poetry prizes were awarded to Brittany Frasure of Paintsville, and Jennifer Charles of Beaver. The Carrie D. Kirkman fiction prizes were awarded to Gary Smith and Jennifer Charles. The Anna Loos Critical Writing prizes were awarded to Gary Smith. The Ruby Elizabeth Fizer creative non-fiction prizes were awarded to Megan Smith and Brittany Thacker of Shelbiana.
