Pikeville College graduate looks back
June 13, 2011 4:00 PM
PIKEVILLE, KY
As members of the Pikeville College class of 2011, the past few years have been some of the more significant of our lives. We’ve all learned tremendous amounts from our classes and professors, but we’ve learned even more about ourselves. College is a time for personal as well as mental development.
Our class has had the distinct pleasure of evolving with Pikeville College. Some of the more important developments in the college’s history happened during our time here. In recent months alone, Pikeville College has expanded in the local, national and even international spheres. The new medical school is progressing quickly and is sure to prove useful in Pikeville’s expansion. The men’s basketball team became national champions for the first time, which put Pikeville on the map.
Pikeville College has afforded me the opportunity to travel the world for my education. Pikeville College has certainly been influential in all of our lives.
Perhaps the biggest development, though, is that we are the last graduating class of Pikeville College. For 122 years, the college made a great impact on the community and people of the Appalachian region. Though the University of Pikeville is the same school, the credit for its progress as such can only be given to Pikeville College – to its administration, faculty, staff, alumni and its students.
As Pikeville has influenced us, we also influence it. We have all contributed to the growth of our school and our community. We are the Pikeville College Class of 2011. We may be the last to bear this title, but we should never forget that we are all a part of something bigger and better. We are all a part of change and growth.
Beth Buckley of Pikeville is a 2011 graduate of Pikeville College. In January, Buckley, who majored in English, participated in the college’s Semester in London program.
