Pikeville College celebrates Religious Emphasis Week

November 05, 2010 4:40 PM
PIKEVILLE, KY
Pikeville College invites you to “Worship on the Hill” during Religious Emphasis Week 2010.

The college’s weekly chapel service will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. in the Meditation Chapel located in Record Memorial Building, level 6. The featured chapel speaker will be Pikeville College alumnus Jody Thompson with music provided by Janean Freeman, assistant professor of music.

This year, five area churches will join the campus family in celebrating Religious Emphasis Week, including Abundant Tidings Christian Fellowship, Penny Road Community Church, Grace Fellowship Church, the First Presbyterian Church of Pikeville and the Pikeville United Methodist Church.

“Pikeville College was founded by Presbyterians and Religious Emphasis Week has become a tradition here,” said Ron Damron, vice president for Student Services. “This year, we’re excited that so many churches in our community will be joining us in celebrating our Christian heritage.”

The community-wide service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. in Booth Auditorium and includes a tribute to veterans, a flag presentation by members of Pikeville College’s ROTC and music by the college choir.

“I appreciate the college’s desire and efforts to open their doors and invite the religious community in as the focus during this week. I am honored at being asked to participate and hope to see a great response at the service,” said Debby Bailey, a member of the Grace Fellowship Church’s ministry team.

The community is cordially invited to attend Religious Emphasis Week events. For more information, contact the Office of Public Affairs at 218-5270.
