PIKEVILLE, KY
The 2011 Pikeville College Phonathon is being held February 15-24 on campus. This year’s Phonathon is chaired by students Shannon Cornette, a senior communication major from Ashland and Jacob Dotson, sophomore biology major from Belfry.
This year’s seven-night event is being held in Sturgill Board Room on the third floor of Record Memorial building from 5 to 9 p.m. each evening. The event raises money for the Alumni Scholarship Fund. Nearly 98% of Pikeville College students receive scholarships and financial assistance. Last year, the college awarded more than $3 million to undergraduate students.
Cornette is a member of the softball team, Biology Club and is a Student Government Association Senator. Dotson is a member of the Pre-Professional Club, the Young Democrats, the President’s Roundtable and the Biology Club.
A number of the College’s athletic teams, fraternities and sororities and campus organizations will also volunteer for the event. They will join local businesses, civic groups, educators and alumni who volunteer each year for the effort.
“We selected both these students for the great leadership and community service they’ve shown on campus,” said Rob Justice, assistant vice president for development. “Both are very active on campus and have volunteered at past Phonathon events and have done a great job reaching out to our alumni and friends. These students and all of our volunteers are important to the success of this event. We are fortunate each year to have a lot of dedicated community and campus volunteers whose work benefits our students.”
All volunteer callers receive a t-shirt and prizes will be given each evening to top callers. Aramark, the College’s food service provider, will provide dinner each evening for volunteers and drinks will be provided by Pepsi.
