Pikeville, Ky.
Students at the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine established the KYCOM Student Research Club. The focus of the group is to generate interest, facilitate education and develop and provide research opportunities while enhancing knowledge in clinical, biomedical and inter-disciplinary research.

“We are looking to help grow research opportunities for our students in any avenue they may have interest in,” said Simon Meredith, KYCOM Student Research Club president. “As a student-run club at KYCOM, our members are also able to get involved with volunteer opportunities in the community in an effort to help us become well-rounded future physicians. Our club’s ultimate goal is to help create opportunities for our students to conduct research here at KYCOM and leave an impact on the school that lasts years down the line.”

To encourage inter-disciplinary research initiatives at the university, the KYCOM Student Research Club plans to collaborate with the University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Optometry, College of Arts and Sciences and Elliott School of Nursing.

Peter Zajac, D.O., FACOFP, associate professor of family medicine at KYCOM, serves as faculty advisor of the club.

In addition to meetings, planned activities for the KYCOM Student Research Club include, noon and evening lecture sessions with guest speakers, community events and fundraising programs.
