Celebrate sounds of the season with the University of Pikeville

November 20, 2012 12:00 AM
Pikeville, Ky.
Join the University of Pikeville Concert Band and Concert Choir for two evenings of holiday favorites and timeless classics. This year’s performances will feature a variety of musical selections that will surely open the Christmas season with a blast.

The University of Pikeville Concert Band will present “Music for the Holidays” on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at 7:30 p.m. in Booth Auditorium. The performance will include traditional holiday pieces and fun medleys. The concert band is under the direction of Nathan Varney.

The University of Pikeville Concert Choir will present their annual Winter Concert on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Chrisman Auditorium. This year’s program will feature highlights from Antonio Vivaldi’s “Gloria” along with other seasonal works including Pietro Yon’s “Gesu Bambino,” PDQ Bach’s “Good King Kong Looked Out” and the Brazilian carol “Borboleta.” Guest instrumentalists, vocalists, and area church and high school choristers will be featured in a variety of works on the program, including the traditional Christmas carol sing-a-long with the audience. The concert choir is under the direction of Janean Freeman, assistant professor of music.

Both performances are free to the community. For more information, call (606) 218-5270.
