“The decision of a Pike County church to welcome people of all races to its congregation was a move in the right direction. The earlier position taken by nine members of the church does not reflect the views of the vast majority of Kentuckians or the citizens of Pike County. It certainly does not reflect the views of the University of Pikeville community. Our diverse and multicultural campus rejects any position based on religious, racial, national origin and similar personal characteristics that indicate nothing about a person’s character or worth as an individual. We are hopeful that this congregation will continue to judge each person they associate with on an individual basis and not on their race.”
