Please take a few moments to learn more about our KYCOM Alumni Association Officers.

President: Erin Griffin, D.O., KYCOM Class of 2009

Born and raised in North Carolina, I am thrilled to lead the KYCOM Alumni Association. Originally from Sanford, NC and now living in Hampstead, I attended UNC Chapel Hill and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Go Heels! I then took a year off, which I partly spent traveling in Australia. While living in Sydney, I began to develop my interest in promoting a healthy lifestyle and counseling patients in nutrition. I now incorporate this into my practice and provide weight loss and wellness counseling on a regular basis. I completed a Family Medicine residency at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. Currently I am practicing in Jacksonville, NC as the Medical Director of Vidant Family Medicine. When I am not busy working or enjoying the beach, I am also very involved in the North Carolina Osteopathic Medical Association as its Immediate Past President. I look forward to continuing to grow our alumni association and thus provide more services for our KYCOM alumni.

Vice President: Sonbol Shahid-Salles, D.O., KYCOM Class of 2010

Sonbol Shahid-Salles, D.O., MPH is a graduate of the University of Georgia Class of 2002 with a bachelor of science and a bachelor of arts, an MPH graduate of the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services in 2003. She has worked with the NIH, World Bank, World Health Organization, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in the area of global health policy. Dr. Shahid-Salles is also a KYCOM graduate with the Class of 2010. Dr. Shahid-Salles completed her emergency medicine residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan and is currently an emergency medicine physician at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola.

Dr. Shahid-Salles has been actively involved in the politics of medicine – serving on both the board of the Michigan Osteopathic Association and the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) as a resident in addition to serving as the graduate medical education committee representative for all residents training at Genesys. She presently continues her involvement on the AOA Board of Trustees as the New Physician in Practice representative.

Dr. Shahid-Salles hopes to bridge the gap between KYCOM students and members of the alumni community who are current or recent trainees through mentorship opportunities. She also feels that an important role for the KYCOM Alumni Association is the support of the practical needs of graduating students and young alumni, particularly regarding debt reduction, loan forgiveness, and financial education.

Secretary-Treasurer: Gregory Harris, D.O., KYCOM Class of 2010

Gregory Harris, D.O., is a graduate of Mississippi State University Class of 2005 with a bachelor of science and a KYCOM graduate with the Class of 2010. Harris completed his internal medicine residency at Genesys Regional Medical Center in Grand Blanc, Michigan, in June 2013. He is a board certified internal medicine physician. Harris is a practicing hematologist/oncologist at Woodlands Medical Specialists in Pensacola, FL.

Dr. Harris served as 2010 class vice president throughout medical school, in addition to serving as the secretary, vice president and ultimately, chair of the Michigan Osteopathic Association's (MOA) intern/resident committee and as chief resident of his internal medicine residency. During fellowship, he served as the Fellow representative to the Michigan Society of Hematology & Oncology. He currently serves on the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)'s Bureau of Membership.

As a recent KYCOM graduate, Harris hopes to bring fresh ideas to the KYCOM Alumni Association regarding how it can serve KYCOM students and the wider alumni community. Harris will provide experienced stewardship of the association's finances, work to engage our students and future alumni, rekindle the passion of alumni who do not feel connected to KYCOM and keep the core vision of the KYCOM Alumni Association in focus.

Fritz-Headshot.pngStudent Advisor to the Board: Fritz Stine, OMS-IV

Frederick "Fritz" Stine is a proud 4th year student with the University of Pikeville - Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine: Go Bears! He received his BA in Psychology (with minors in Political Science and Biology) from the College of Charleston in Charleston, SC in 2010 and felt compelled toward the practice of Osteopathic Medicine after working for 2 years as a Nursing Assistant in a busy downtown pediatric emergency room. It was there that he fostered his love for the practice of pediatrics and where he realized that Osteopathic physicians are especially poised to make a difference in the lives of children everywhere!

Fritz served as the President of the Class of 2017 in his first year of medical school and went on to serve as Student Government Association president in his second. As a 4th year student, he is concurrently completing his Masters in Healthcare Administration and also serves as the student advisor to the Board of Trustees for the American Osteopathic Association. He and his lovely wife, Margaret Nelson, currently reside in Winterville, NC.

Student Doctor Stine's vision for the board is one that will flourish into a body that truly serves the KYCOM alumni on a spectrum that spans from the beginning of medical education and onward into our physicians' future practices. More than anything, he looks forward to being able to bring the KYCOM Alumni Association Board closer to the students so that the board may support students’ material needs as well as their intellectual ones.
