Corey Fipps named new UPIKE Athletic Director

After conducting a nationwide search, the University of Pikeville has appointed Coach Corey Fipps as its new athletic director. Coach Fipps’ selection is a testament to his outstanding leadership and dedication to student success. With his proven track record of empowering student-athletes both on and off the field, Fipps is poised to make a significant impact in his new role.

As the head football coach, Fipps led the Bears to a remarkable 7-3 season and a 5-1 record in their first year in the Appalachian Athletic Conference. His commitment extends far beyond the gridiron. Under his guidance, the UPIKE football team completed over 3,500 hours of community service, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to making a positive difference in their community.

In the fall semester of 2023, the UPIKE football team excelled academically, earning a collective 3.1 GPA. Fifteen players achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA, and 69 players earned a GPA above 3.0. Moreover, 33 players were named to the all-conference academic team, and 12 players were recognized as NAIA scholar-athletes.

Fipps’ dedication to developing young athlete-leaders is evident in his work at Kentucky Christian University (KCU), where he served as both the head football coach and vice president of enrollment management and athletics. Fipps came to UPIKE after four seasons as head football coach at KCU, where he led two of the best seasons in the Knights program history. He has carved a path through many levels of college football, beginning with his alma mater, NCAA Division II Harding University, where he played offensive tackle and obtained both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and kinesiology.

As the athletic director, Coach Fipps will oversee all aspects of UPIKE’s athletic programs. His extensive experience and proven leadership will be instrumental in guiding the Bears to continued success and shaping the future of UPIKE athletics. The university community is confident that he will build upon the strong foundation that has been established and take UPIKE athletics to even greater heights. In addition to his duties as athletic director, Coach Fipps remains UPIKE’s head football coach.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to lead the University of Pikeville Athletic Department,” said Fipps. “My family and I have come to love UPIKE and the vital role it plays in the mountains of Central Appalachia. We strive to shape young people who will make a difference beyond the arena of competition for generations to come.”
