#5 in Rural Medicine... in the Nation
KYCOM
The University of Pikeville-Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KYCOM) is among the top five schools in rural medicine, rising significantly in the rankings for all medical schools in the nation, both D.O. and M.D., in the U.S. News & World Report's 2014 edition of Best Graduate Schools.
 
In Memory of Frank T. Welch
Student Graduation Gift 

Each year, the UPIKE Alumni Association makes a gift to each graduating senior as an acknowledgment of their hard work, and as a welcome into the alumni association. This year, the gift will be given in memory of Mr. Frank T. Welch, a long-time Eastern Kentucky educator and superintendent.

 

If you would like to contribute to the gifts in Mr. Welch's memory, please contact Brooke Suthers in the Office of Advancement at (606) 218-5949.

Roundtable

Celebrate Women's History Month and the achievements of women with the University of Pikeville. The campus and community are invited to a roundtable discussion, "Women's Inspiration, Meaningful Innovation," on Tuesday, March 26, at 6:30 p.m., in Booth Auditorium. Distinguished panelists include Former Kentucky First Lady Judi Patton, Rep. Leslie Combs, Judge Sara Combs and Josephine Richardson. The discussion will be moderated by Brigitte LaPresto, Ph.D., professor of English and chair of the Division of Humanities.

Roy M. Palk, Esq., president and CEO of New Horizons Consulting, will be the featured speaker for the University of Pikeville's "Speakers and Leadership Series" hosted by the Division of Business and Economics. Palk will speak on the topic "What's Up With Ethics?" The event is set for Wednesday, March 27, at 10 a.m. in Booth Auditorium, Record Memorial Building.

What a month for our students in the classroom and on the court! KYCOM received a top five national ranking, the UPIKE Academic Team earned high marks, the Social Work Student team made an impressive assist in the community, and members of our men's and women's basketball teams received academic all-conference honors. Special congratulations to our Cheerleading squad for their Mid-South Conference Championship. Join us as we celebrate our student-athletes during the first Athletics Weekend, April 26-28.

UPIKE won its first-ever Mid-South Conference cheerleading competition on Feb. 27.

In addition, UPIKE Coach Jeannie Stone was named Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year and Jaimie Ward was named Cheerleader of the Year.

As An Intern in State Government

WardAllie Ward, of Louisville, is one of four students attending Kentucky's 20 independent colleges to participate in the internship program sponsored by the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities (AIKCU). She is working in the Cabinet for Tourism, Art and Heritage's travel division.
