Business - Internships
Business internships allow students a semester or summer-based pre-planned, academically supervised experience for college credit. The internship program is an educational strategy that enables the students to apply what they have learned in the classroom to real-world situations in a professional workplace environment. Often students are paid for the internship experience and some actually receive part-time employment while attending the University of Pikeville or full-time positions upon graduating. Students completing internships may receive 1-6 credit hours for the experience.
The requirements for the internship student are:
- The internship must be pre-planned with the student’s academic advisor
- The internship must be related to the student’s major
- The student must be of junior or senior standing
- The student must have a 3.0 GPA within their major or obtain special permission from their academic advisor
- The student must demonstrate good citizenship and high dependability levels
- The student must complete all necessary forms and contracts as required by the University of Pikeville and the internship company
Students who participate in the internship program may choose from a variety of local businesses. Several current and past internship companies are:
- Appalachian News-Express
- BB&T Bank
- Citizen’s National Bank
