The child of teachers, Burton J. Webb, Ph.D., knew from an early age that education would play a significant role in his life, a path of service that led him to the University of Pikeville.

Following a national search and unanimous decision by the university’s board of trustees, Webb began his tenure as UPIKE’s 21st president on Jan. 1, 2016. An experienced administrator, scientist and teacher-scholar, his accomplished career in higher education includes 16 years at Indiana Wesleyan University, where he served as associate dean for the School of Physical and Applied Sciences, chair of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, and interim dean for the College of the Arts and Sciences.

Along the way, he spent 14 years teaching medical immunology to first-year medical students at Indiana University School of Medicine. In 2010, he accepted the position of vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho, before coming to Pikeville.

Webb earned a doctorate in microbiology and immunology from Indiana University School of Medicine, a master’s degree in biology from Ball State University and a bachelor’s degree in zoology from Olivet Nazarene University.
